Fantasy

for English Horn or Alto Saxophone and Piano

"Fantasy" was written in 1992 for my friend and classmate at the New England Conservatory, Marc Goldstick. He was looking for a virtuosic piece for the English horn that wasn't the usual slow, idyllic music that is typically written for the instrument. He convinced me of the capabilities of the instrument by proceeding to play the Mozart Oboe Concerto for me, on his English horn. Point well taken, and I wrote him this piece. Marc premiered it at NEC, and another friend, Conrad Kline, heard the piece and asked me to transcribe it for his instrument, the saxophone. I am often not a fan of transcriptions, but I think in this case, the piece works equally well on both instruments.
